Resilience and Resistance

Resilience: This can be seen as how far in each direction something can be pushed before it is affected or how much change it can take on before becoming altered.
Resistance: This can be seen as how something fends off disturbance and survives.
These terms are important when it comes to natural resources issues because plant communities and wildlife are affected in multiple ways. Resilient communities have the ability to recover and continue to support various wildlife. Throughout succession different wildlife are supported. Resistant communities will continue to hold the same wildlife due to the unchanged habitat.
